Quilts are Warmer
This is a pin/pendant I made in 2010, I believe. It was inspired by a quilt my grandma Nina had made for me as a child, and which I still have. That quilt was so wonderful, and kept me so warm with its comfort. I used sterling silver, 18K gold, and natural Candelaria turquoise. The basic heart shape was formed on a 20 ton hydraulic press with a die I made from Liquid Steel and pipe. I cut the sections almost to the edge so it held together, drilled the holes, soldered it to sheet with the jump rings, and used liver of sulfur to oxidize it different colors. Sewing the sections together with the gold wire was more challenging than I anticipated. I’d of made a bigger hole in back otherwise! My fingers and wrists were sore for days afterwards. The reverse is stamped to read, “Quilts are Always Warmer” .
