“Orange Phaelenopsis Orchid”
This is my donation to benefit the people affected by the Asaayi Lake fire. It’s a pin and pendant made of fine silver, Japanese glass enamel, a South Sea cultured pearl, and a yellow sapphire set in 24K gold. The money raised will go directly to the chapters affected, and bypass all of the red tape. The retail price is $1,800, and the minimum bid is $400. I’ve always loved orchids and the Tiffany enameled orchids from a century ago. Art Nouveau jewelry is amazing and I love the enameling from that period as well. I’ve been doing plique a jour for almost ten years, but it is so laborious that I decided to try sifting enamels so more people can afford my work. This piece has a clear coat over the silver and a coat of dark roar over it. I accidentally over fired it so it turned brown and orange, which I actually like. My Navajo side is from Crystal, one of the areas that has been evacuated. I hope this piece finds a good home.
